At boot up i have yellow lines then a white screen
At boot up my screen has yellow up and down lines, cooks for awhile with the bar moving and then to a white screen.

Hi markfrompetaluma,
If your vintage iMac's displaying lines and isn't booting up like it's supposed to, that's not conducive for use. I'll do my best to help you though.
Reset NVRAM (PRAM) -- Resetting can help with display issues.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up -- The title is pretty informative and can help getting past the Apple loading bar to your desktop.
